Scott Story's Photographic Journey

Scott Story

I started my journey into the photography world at 12 years old. I bought my first fully maunual 35mm camera because I saw a sunset over lake Michigan that I wanted to photograph. In one form or another I have been shooting ever since that time. 29 years now and it really has been a fun journey.

I started with landscapes and over time transitioned into shooting people and then weddings and portraits and my passion for photography dwindled. I put my camera away for several years, at least as far as shooting people was concerned.

In 2004 I made the decision to make my way back into the photography world and rediscovered my passion. I made a promise to myself that I would not let my passion for this fade again. That I would shoot what I want when I want and that I would become the best I could be.

To that end, I sought out working professionals that could mentor me and show me the way. I was lucky and found an incredible photographer named JT Smith from southern Illinois. He owns Supershoots.com and holds photography workshops all over the country. Through him and his workshops I met some of todays masters in photography and they all were willing to invest their time and experience to take my photography to the next level.

Now, I am enjoying shooting everything I can. I think I have a modern feel in my portrait work as opposed to the old traditional portraits. My weddings tend to be a good blend of traditional and photojournalistic styles. I work with models from all over the country to help build their portfolios. I have become most known though for my headshots. I am not sure how that happened but I hear all the time when I meet photographers for the first time, "Your the headshot guy right?"

Ultimately, It all comes down to my passion for photography. I love what I do and I am always happy when I have a camera in my hand and I think that shows in my work. I enjoy the entire process, from the shoot through the editing and retouching.

I have even started being asked to mentor new photographers in the area and I am enjoying that as well. I enjoy spreading the passion of photography. I dont see other photographers as competition, I see them as people that are pushing me to become even better at what I do. They help me without ever even meeting me.

Thank you for looking through my site, and I hope you have found the information you are looking for. If you havent then I would ask that you call me and we can work together to figure it out. I look forward to hearing from you as well as working with you.
